As I set here watching the first snow shower of the season, it reminds me that I need to make sure the house is ready to contend with Old Man Winter. How about your home? Is it prepared to keep you warm and cozy during the approaching wintry months? If not, here are a few steps you can take to get through the frigid season as painlessly as possible.

Seal Those Leaks
Experts say that sealing leaks around your house is one of the most efficient ways to keep your house warmer and curb your heating expenses. Earthwork Group reports that on average, American homes have enough leaks to equal a 9-foot hole in the wall.
To find the leaks, walk around the interior of the house with a lit stick of incense. Hold it near leak prone areas around door frames, electrical outlets, recessed lighting, and window frames. If the smoke flutters, you’ve found a leak. When you locate those spots, seal them with caulk. Use weather resistant caulking to close up any gaps on the outside of your home.

Financial emergencies can leave anybody down on their luck. One moment you’re doing just fine, and the next it seems like every bill is another meal you’re going to have to miss. Retirement plans offered through your employer are a great start to having the money you’ll need to retire on. However, the 401(k) your workplace offers might not be enough of a hoard to keep you going for the rest of your life. Once you stop working, this is all you are going to have to keep yourself going. You might need a good deal more than that, and the following are five great reasons why this is.
Your 401(k) Will Be Taxed
The interest, dividends and capital gains you extract from your 401(k) will be taxed, just like any other kind of income you make. The general theory is that as you get older, you’ll be making less money and will be at a lower tax bracket than when you were younger. People will determine their own lifestyle no matter what. Family advise can provide some influence and so will advertising. At the end, it all boils down to what a person is willing to accept or give up to attain a specific lifestyle. No lifestyle can be maintained without acceptance and determination.
When people decide to be healthy and live accordingly, it requires a lifestyle that agrees with such a decision. A healthy lifestyle can be difficult to achieve not because it is impossible to do but because of the prevailing tendency of modern-day people to favor convenience. It is not an accident that convenience foods are generally not considered healthy. Healthy eating requires planning which in turn requires time. Time is of course something we almost always don’t have that is why we settle for what is available.
Healthy living is about making the right choices by practicing wise consumerism. It starts with eating a balanced diet and is supported by avoiding unhealthy habits such as smoking or taking drugs, exercising, and having regular medical check-ups. The rest is about proper life disposition which can be achieved by a strong support network of family and friends, having clean fun and enjoying life, and creating that critical balance between work and play.
A healthy lifestyle leaves a person with a positive feeling that is manifested in having more energy and motivation to do what needs to be done, including the more difficult and unpleasant ones. Life after all, is not a bed of roses, more like a bed of roses with thorns. Healthy living can make our minds and bodies responsive to the day-to-day challenges we face, and that includes the good and the bad.

It can seem so tempting to borrow money from your family members. They won’t do a credit-check, apparently they have extra money to lend and if they charge you interest, it probably won’t be as much as a bank would. Even with all those reasons that can make it look like you should, there are many more reasons to not borrow.
Non-Payment Penalties
If you can’t pay it back on time, it could make every family situation for the rest of your life (or theirs) feel awkward. Nobody wants to be the person that borrowed money, couldn’t pay it back on time and was talked about for decades. Read the rest of this entry »
